The biomarket in Europe is growing! That is according to Research and Markets' report, released at the end of May, covering the period 2023-2032.

- CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate): The European organic food industry is growing at an impressive 10.25% a year.
- Organic farmland: Between 2012 and 2020, the share of organic farmland increased by more than 50%, accounting for 9.1% of total farmland in Europe. This represents an annual growth rate of 5.7%. Permanent crops, such as fruits, olives and vineyards, accounted for 11% of total organic farmland in 2020. The goal of the European Green Deal is to have at least 25% of agricultural land organic by 2030. Still 16% to go!
- Plant-based diets: The popularity of plant-based diets in Europe is driving the organic food market. 3% of Europeans identify as vegan, 11% as flexitarian, and 23% eat less meat.
- Health awareness: Increasing health awareness leads to more interest in organic food. Europeans are paying more and more attention to the ingredients in their food, replacing artificial additives with natural alternatives.
- Germany in the lead:
- 66% of the German population almost always tries to eat and drink healthy.
- 73% believe healthy habits contribute to a healthier environment.
- According to the USDA, there are as many as 2,400 organic food shops in Germany. In France, there were more: over 2,800 specialised organic shops by the end of 2023, according to l'Agence bio/Biolineaires.
- In 2023 Germany had the highest organic turnover in Europe at over €16 billion, followed by France at €12.1 billion. Swiss spend the most per capita on organic food.
